Our mission at Emotion Surfing is to equip young minds with the tools to ride the waves of their emotions, allowing them to thrive academically, socially, and personally. We understand that adolescence can be a turbulent time, filled with complex emotions, social pressures, and personal growth. By fostering emotional intelligence, our goal is to provide them with the skills necessary to become resilient, empathetic, and confident as they navigate the complexities of young adulthood.

Emotion Surfing is a non-profit organization founded by 13-year-old Adriana Cicero who had a vision of helping her peers navigate the difficult world of emotions. Our organization is dedicated to helping middle and high school-aged adolescents learn about emotional intelligence, a critical skill that forms the foundation for a healthy, happy, and successful life.
Our Team
Adriana Cicero
Adriana Cicero was born in Spain, spent her infancy in China, and her toddler years between Italy, Spain, and Japan. She now calls Miami home where she has resided for the last 7 years. She has recently taken up surfing and e-foiling and can be seen foiling around Miami Beach. She has a passion for learning about emotions, recognizing emotions, and how to better navigate them. Her interest in emotions, surfing, and helping others led her to founding Emotion Surfing.
Lisa Rees, PCC, MPA
Lisa Rees is a certified coach and specializes in coaching, teaching, and developing emotional intelligence skills in others. She frequently works with youth and is a mentor and previously was a Girl Scout Leader and Girls on the Run Co-Leader in her community. David Caruso is a Management Psychologist and the co-creator of the Mayer Salovey Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT). He is also the co-founder of EI Skills Group. Deb Chisholm
Deb Chisholm is a professionally recognized school counselor, educator, facilitator, coach, and parent educator who has dedicated her 40-year career to helping people of all ages recognize and act on their strengths, values, beliefs, and talents. Nancie Spector, Ph.D.
Nancie R. Spector is a licensed child clinical psychologist with over thirty years of experience. She has expertise in learning and intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, anxiety, and mood disorders, and dealing with issues of loss such as divorce and death. Dr. Spector received her undergraduate training at Brown University, her graduate training in child clinical psychology at Case Western Reserve University and completed Predoctoral and Postdoctoral internships at Brown University and Yale University, respectively. Dr. Spector is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for adults, adolescents (DBT-A), and children (DBT-C). She also utilizes the skill system (Julie Brown) to provide DBT skills training for those with intellectual disabilities. Dr. Spector teaches parents how to best help their “supersensor” child as well as providing guidance regarding feeding, toileting, sleeping, and learning. Keith Brooks
Keith Brooks is the founder of NFBLME (The National Fellowship of Black and Latino Male Educators) and currently a partner at Noble Story Group. Prior to his current position, Keith served school communities for sixteen years as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. As an executive coach and leadership trainer he has a range of experience and expertise in 1:1 coaching, leading professional development for groups, building, and sustaining successful professional learning communities, and supporting teams to create positive sustainable working conditions.
